Earlier this month  in June 2010 Dragonair  unveiled a special livery on one of its aircraft as part of the airline’s celebrations to mark 25 years of serving Hong Kong. More than 200 guests including government officials, aviation and travel trade partners and local and overseas media were in attendance.

AFA has invited James Tong to share his views and insights on the aviation industry today and the role of Asia's top regional airline in the future

James Tong  took up the position as Dragonair’s  Chief Executive Officer in August 2009

Prior to taking up this post, Mr Tong was General Manager Sales PRD & Hong Kong at Cathay Pacific Airways, responsible for managing the airline’s passenger business in Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta region since April 2008.

Mr Tong joined Cathay Pacific in July 1987 and has held a number of managerial positions within the commercial and operational departments in Hong Kong, Australia and Germany. He has worked for Dragonair previously, in the position of Regional Manager Northern China in Beijing from 1994 to 1996, and was also General Manager Commercial for all cargo-carrier Air Hong Kong from 2002 to 2004.

Mr Tong holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

  • Established in 1986 in Hong Kong as an informal meeting group, AFA today plays a unique role around Asia as a multipurpose rallying point. Membership is by invitation and provides high level business insights and access, together with value adding advocacy activities.
  • The Forum has since 1998, raised over US$350,000 for aviation related charities – particularly ORBIS, the flying eye hospital, via its innovative Aerospace Auction, and charity initiatives.
