Martin Craigs celebrates the start of the Second Century of Powered Flight in Greater China with a review of a night at The Peninsula Shanghai on 21st February 2011 where glasses were raised to toast René Vallon, who in his Sommer biplane astonished a full capacity crowd at Shanghai’s Kiangwan Racecourse on 21 February 1911 making the first powered flight in China.
